EPISODE SUMMARY

I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately, especially after watching you get ready for your first prom. It was one of those moments that just hits you—you’re not a little kid anymore. You’re growing up right in front of me.

I’ve been noticing the small things—the way you carry yourself, the way you think, and how you treat people. I see strength and kindness in you, and that matters more than you probably realize.

I know growing up can feel confusing at times. Part of you still feels like a kid, and part of you is stepping into something new. But you don’t have to have everything figured out right now. You just need to keep being yourself.

I’m proud of who you’re becoming. Not because you’re perfect, but because of the person I see you turning into. Just keep going, trust yourself, and don’t rush what’s ahead of you.

This is Mr. Funky Teacher. And this is Funky Letters to My Kids.

Today’s episode is called Mya: Watching You Step Into Your Future.

This one is for you, Mya.

I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately.

And honestly, yesterday was one of those moments I don’t think I’ll ever forget. Watching you get ready for your first prom, your junior prom, seeing you all dressed up, seeing how confident you looked, how beautiful you were.

It just kind of hit me. You’re growing up. Not in some far-off way, but right now.

There are these moments I’ve been noticing. Little ones. The way you carry yourself, the way you talk, the way you handle things.

And it’s kind of hit me—you’re not a little kid anymore. You’re starting to figure things out. You’re stepping into your own life.

And I want you to hear this from me. I see strength in you. I see kindness in you.

I see the way you think about things, the way you care about people, the way you’re trying to do things right. And that matters more than you probably realize.

Growing up is a weird thing because part of you still feels like a kid. And part of you is starting to think and feel in new ways.

And sometimes that can feel confusing. Sometimes it can feel like pressure, like you have to figure everything out.

You don’t.

You don’t have to have it all figured out right now. You just have to keep being you. Keep learning, keep growing, keep showing up the way you have been.

There are going to be moments where you question yourself, where you wonder if you’re doing things right, where you compare yourself to other people. That’s normal.

But I want you to remember something. You don’t need to be anyone else.

You don’t need to be anyone else. Who you are is already enough.

And from where I sit, I’m just proud of you. Not because you’re perfect, not because you always get everything right, but because I see who you are becoming. And I love watching that.

You’ve got so much in front of you. So many experiences, so many opportunities, so many moments that are going to shape your life.

And you don’t have to rush any of it. Just take it one step at a time.

If there’s one thing I want you to hold on to, it’s this. Be yourself. Trust yourself. And don’t be afraid to grow into who you’re meant to be.

Because at the end of the day, this is what it comes down to. Be who you are. Treat people right. Keep growing. And remember, you can change the world by how you live every day. Go make a difference.

I’m proud of you. And I love you.

Dad.
