EPISODE SUMMARY
I’ve been thinking about gratitude and how easy it is to overlook it in the middle of busy days. It’s not just about saying thank you—it’s about actually noticing what you have while you’re living it.
There are days where I get caught up in what’s next or what isn’t going right. But then something small happens, like a moment with my kids, and it reminds me what really matters.
Right now, I’m thankful for them and the stage of life we’re in. I know these moments won’t last forever, and that makes them even more meaningful.
I want them to learn to notice their lives while they’re in them. Gratitude isn’t about everything being perfect—it’s about choosing to see what still matters, even when things aren’t easy.

This is Mr. Funky Teacher.
And this is Funky Letters to My Kids.
Today’s episode is called What I’m Thankful For Right Now.
This one is for you, Maya, Carter, and Gavin.
I want to talk to you about something that’s easy to overlook…
Gratitude.
Not just saying thank you…
But actually slowing down enough to notice what you have.
There are a lot of days where life just feels busy.
Things to do… places to be… stuff sitting on your mind.
And it’s really easy to move through a whole day
Without stopping to think about what’s actually good.
I’ve had days like that…
Where I’m focused on what’s next…
Or what’s not going right…
Or what I wish was different.
And then something small happens.
Maybe it’s just being around you guys.
Maybe it’s a simple moment… a conversation… a laugh…
Just being together.
And it kind of hits me…
This is it.
This is what matters.
Right now.
If I’m being honest…
I’m thankful for you.
I’m thankful for the stage of life we’re in.
I’m thankful that we get time together like this…
Because I know it won’t always look like this.
And that makes it matter even more.
I want you to learn how to notice that.
Not just the big things…
But the small, everyday moments.
Because those are the ones that make up your life.
There will be times in your life where things aren’t easy.
When things don’t go your way…
When you feel frustrated… disappointed… or stuck.
And in those moments… gratitude can feel hard.
But that’s actually when it matters the most.
Because it helps you see what’s still good…
Even when everything isn’t.
Gratitude doesn’t mean everything is perfect.
It just means you’re choosing to see what still matters.
And that changes how you experience your life.
If there’s one thing I want you to remember from this one, it’s this:
Don’t rush past your life.
Pay attention to it.
Notice it.
Appreciate it.
Because the moments that you are in right now…
They don’t last forever.
At the end of the day, this is what it comes down to:
Be who you are.
Treat people right.
Keep growing.
And remember…
You can change the world by how you live every day.
Go make a difference.
I’m proud of you.
And I love you.
Dad.
