EPISODE SUMMARY
I’ve been noticing something about you lately—your confidence is growing. Not in a loud way, but in a steady, real way. I see it in how you carry yourself and in the decisions you’re starting to make.
These moments—driving, making choices, figuring out what matters to you—they might not feel huge, but they are. They show that you’re starting to take ownership of your life.
Confidence isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s about being willing to make decisions and stand by them, even when you’re unsure. You don’t have to follow everyone else—you get to decide who you are.
I’m proud of the way you’re growing. Just keep trusting yourself and being you.

This is Mr. Funky Teacher. And this is Funky Letters to My Kids.
Today’s episode is called Carter: Be Yourself, Even When It’s Hard.
This one is for you, Carter.
Carter, I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately, and I’ve noticed something. Your confidence is starting to come out more. Not in a loud way, but in a steady way.
In how you carry yourself, in the decisions you’re starting to make—whether it’s with sports, the choices you’ve been making about what you want to do, what matters to you, or even getting your school permit and starting to drive more.
Those are big moments.
They might not feel huge every day, but they are, because they show something. You’re starting to take ownership of your life.
And I want you to hear this from me. I see confidence growing in you. I see you thinking things through. I see you starting to trust yourself more.
And that’s a big deal.
Because confidence doesn’t just show up all at once. It builds—moment by moment, decision by decision.
And it isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s not about always being right.
It’s about being willing to make a choice and stand by it, even when you’re not 100% sure.
You’re going to have moments where you second guess yourself, where you wonder if you made the right call, where you feel pressure from other people or expectations.
That’s normal.
But I want you to remember this:
You don’t have to be anyone else.
You don’t have to follow what everyone else is doing.
You get to decide who you are.
And being yourself isn’t always the easiest path. Not at all.
Sometimes it means standing apart.
Sometimes it means making choices that not everyone understands.
But that’s where confidence really comes from.
Not from fitting in—but from knowing who you are.
And from where I sit, I’m proud of you.
I’m proud of the way you’re growing, the way you’re thinking, the way you’re starting to take ownership.
Those things matter way more than being perfect.
You’re going to have a lot more decisions coming—big ones, small ones, ones that shape your path.
And you don’t have to rush them.
Just keep being thoughtful, keep being steady, and keep trusting yourself more and more.
If there’s one thing I want you to hold on to, it’s this:
Be yourself.
Even when it’s hard.
Even when it feels easier to go along with everyone else.
Because the more you trust yourself, the stronger you become.
At the end of the day, this is what it comes down to:
Be who you are.
Treat people right.
Keep growing.
And remember—you can change the world by how you live every day.
Go make a difference.
I’m proud of you.
And I love you.
Dad.
