EPISODE SUMMARY

I’ve been thinking about love and what it actually looks like in real life. Not the kind you see in movies, but the kind that shows up in everyday moments. The kind that stays steady, even when things aren’t easy.

I’ve noticed that in your mom. There have been days when I wasn’t at my best, and she still showed patience, care, and consistency. Not in big ways, but in the small, everyday choices that matter most.

That’s what love really is. It’s not just a feeling—it’s a choice. It’s how you treat people, how you respond when things are hard, and how you show up when no one else is watching.

As you grow up, I want you to recognize that kind of love and be that kind of person. Someone who doesn’t just say they care, but proves it through how they live every single day.

This is Mr. Funky Teacher.

And this is Funky Letters to My Kids.

Today’s episode is called What Love Really Looks Like.

This one is for you, Maya, Carter, and Gavin.

I want to talk to you about love.

Not the kind you hear about in movies…
Not the kind that’s always easy or perfect…
But the kind that’s real.
The kind that lasts.

There are so many moments I could point to…
But the one that sticks with me is this.

There have been days when I’ve been tired… frustrated… maybe even a little off.
Days where I probably wasn’t at my best.

And your mom?

She still showed up with patience.
She still cared.

She still chose how she was going to treat me… and all of you…
No matter what kind of day it was.

Not in some big, dramatic way…
But in small things.

The way she talks to you…
The way she listens…

The way she keeps things going… even when she’s tired too.

And I’ve noticed that.

I’ve learned from that.

Because love isn’t just a feeling.

Love is a choice.

It’s how you show up for people… especially when it’s not easy.

It’s being patient when you don’t feel like it.
It’s being kind when you could be short.
It’s staying steady when things feel a little off.

And I’ll tell you this…

I’m really thankful for your mom.

You are lucky to have her.
And I’m lucky too.

I want you to pay attention to that.

Not just what people say… but how.

How people show up.

Because that’s what love really looks like.

As you grow up… and as you build relationships in your own life…
You’re going to meet all kinds of people.

Some will say the right things…

But the ones who matter?

They will show it.

In how they treat you.
In how they respond when things aren’t perfect.
In how consistent they are.

And I want you to be that kind of person too.

Someone who shows up.
Someone who treats people right.

Someone who doesn’t just say they care…
But lives it out.

If there’s something I want you to remember from this one, it’s this:

Love isn’t just something you feel.

It’s something you do… every day.

In the small moments.
In the hard moments.
In the moments no one else sees.

At the end of the day, this is what it comes down to:

Be who you are.
Treat people right.
Keep growing.

And remember…
You can change the world by how you live every day.

Go make a difference.

I’m proud of you.
And I love you.

Dad.
