EPISODE SUMMARY
I’ve been thinking about you lately, Mya, and the way you’ve been handling things with other people. I see something in you that matters, and I want you to know that I notice it.
I know it’s not always easy, especially with other girls. There can be pressure to join in, to go along with things that don’t feel right, or to build yourself up by putting someone else down.
But I’ve seen you choose differently. I’ve seen you avoid that kind of drama and stay true to who you are. And that says a lot about you.
I’m proud of you for that. Just keep being that person—the one who treats people right, stands on her own character, and doesn’t need to tear others down to belong.

This is Mr. Funky Teacher. And this is Funky Letters to My Kids.
Today’s episode is called Mya: Your Character Will Set You Apart.
This one’s for you, Mya.
I’ve been thinking about you lately…
And the way you’ve been handling things—especially with other people.
And I want to take a second and say something I’m thankful for.
I’m thankful for the kind of person you’re choosing to be.
Because I see it.
And it matters.
I know it’s not always easy.
Especially with other girls.
There can be a lot of pressure…
A lot of moments where people are talking…
Making comments…
Putting others down…
Being mean.
And I’ve noticed something about you.
You don’t join in with that.
For years… you’ve tried to avoid that kind of drama.
You don’t take the easy path of going along with it.
You don’t build yourself up by putting someone else down.
And that says a lot about you.
Because it would be easy to.
It would be easy to fit in that way…
To laugh along…
To say something…
To be a part of it.
But you haven’t.
And I’ve seen you avoid that for years.
And that’s character.
That’s the kind of thing that sets you apart, Mya.
Not loud…
Not for attention…
But real.
You’re choosing to be someone who treats people right—
Even when others don’t.
And I want you to know…
That matters more than you probably realize.
Because over time…
That’s what people remember.
That’s what builds trust.
That’s what builds respect.
And more than anything—
That’s what shapes who you become.
If there’s one thing I want you to hold on to, it’s this:
Keep being that person.
The one who doesn’t need to tear others down.
The one who chooses kindness.
The one who stands on her own character.
And at the end of the day, this is what it comes down to:
Be who you are.
Treat people right.
Keep growing.
And remember—
You can change the world by how you live every day.
Go make a difference.
I’m proud of you.
And I love you.
Dad.
